CALL FOR PAPERS 2027/1: New Technologies of the Self: Between Secularism and New Forms of Spirituality in the Digital Age
This issue of Teoria invites contributions exploring the transformation of spirituality, religion, and practices of the self in the digital age. Recent debates on secularization suggest that, rather than disappearing, religion and spirituality are being reconfigured through digital technologies. Online spiritual communities, AI conversational agents, digital religions, and platform-mediated practices are reshaping processes of self-formation, care of the self, and the search for meaning. Building on Michel Foucault’s notion of technologies of the self, the contributions will examine how artificial intelligence, algorithms, and digital platforms transform contemporary experiences of subjectivity, transcendence, and the sacred.
