Abstract

The agri-food sector is one of the largest users of the planet’s natural resources. This represents one of the main causes of biodiversity loss, leading to various negative externalities, including soil degradation and water depletion. In this sense, only a virtuous and sustainable use of natural resources can sustain the resilience of ecosystems in combating the negative effects of climate change.

It is more specifically said aspect that has led to a growing attention from civil society towards sustainability issues, prompting the European Union to adopt measures and strategies in line with achieving climate neutrality by 2050. Within this framework, the “Strategic Dialogue on the future of EU agriculture” of August 2024 is of fundamental interest. The work is dedicated to the drafting of a comprehensive set of guiding principles and recommendations for the creation of socially responsible, economically profitable, and environmentally sustainable agri-food systems.
